SCHOTT Three-Part Housing for Torque Sensor

3PartHousingThe unique three-part housing for SAW sensors has been co-developed by SCHOTT Electronic Packaging and Transense Technologies plc.

This enables the Transense SAW sensor to perform real time, exact measurement of drive line torque, control shifting operations within automatic transmissions and EPAS steering systems, while remaining hermetic over its operating lifetime.

Closed loop feedback from precisely functioning torque sensors increases the functionality as well as the fuel and operational efficiency of driveline systems. This would for example increase driver comfort through smoother gear changes and be maintained over the service life - currently algorithms embedded in the ECU to estimate torque, lose relevance as the actual torque produced changes with wear and the bedding in of components.
